LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (September 30, 2025) – A 35-year-old motorcyclist identified as Andrew Morcos has tragically died in a Los Angeles box truck accident on Interstate 5.

Los Angeles County officials are saying that the collision took place around 9:45 a.m. on Saturday. Andrew Morcos was traveling down Interstate 5 when he was involved in a collision with a box truck.

Firefighters and first responders were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. Sadly, he was not able to survive the severe extent of his injuries.

It remains unclear if the truck driver involved in the crash will receive any citations. A full investigation into the Los Angeles box truck accident that killed Andrew Morcos remains ongoing.

Liability for Los Angeles County Truck Accidents

Los Angeles County has millions of residents and extremely busy freeways. Drivers must do their absolute best to navigate these roads with due care to avoid collisions. Many collisions involve truck drivers that make unsafe lane changes. According to CA Veh Code § 22107, “No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety and then only after the giving of an appropriate signal in the manner provided in this chapter in the event any other vehicle may be affected by the movement.” If a truck driver makes an unsafe movement into the path of a motorcyclist, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Trucks can be particularly dangerous to motorcycles for many different reasons.

  • Blind Spots: Trucks have large blind spots that can obscure the presence of motorcycles and smaller vehicles.
  • Stopping Distance: Trucks can weigh tens of thousands of pounds. A fully loaded truck traveling at freeway speeds can take the length of two football fields to come to a complete stop.
  • Turning Radius: Trucks have a much larger turning radius than other vehicles, which makes them more susceptible to side impact collisions.

There could be several parties that bear legal responsibility for any truck accident. This includes the company that owned or operated a truck. In California, a company could be liable for the negligent actions of their workers who were performing their job duties. In most cases, truck rental companies will not be liable for the negligent actions of their drivers. But they potentially could be under the theory of negligent entrustment. In other words, a truck company could be responsible for a crash if they rented a vehicle to someone who was not properly licensed or visibly intoxicated.

Steps to Take After Los Angeles County Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists are uniquely vulnerable to the hazards posed by motor vehicles. Fatal accidents with these vehicles are on the rise. According to the IIHS, “A total of 6,335 motorcyclists died in crashes in 2023. That is the highest number ever recorded and a 26% increase since 2019. Motorcycle deaths accounted for 15% of all motor vehicle crash deaths in 2023 and were about triple the number of motorcyclist deaths in 1997.” Several actions should be taken after any motorcycle accident.

  • Police Investigation: The police should be called to the scene of the collision as soon as possible so that they can begin an investigation.
  • Photos: Many photos of the accident site should be taken. A lack of skid marks in the roadway can show that one driver didn’t attempt to brake leading up to a crash.
  • Eyewitnesses: All of the eyewitnesses that may have information about the crash should be interviewed. They can provide crucial details of what led up to a crash.
  • Accident Reconstruction: When there is a lack of witnesses or surveillance footage for a crash, investigators may need to rely on accident reconstruction. This is a field of science that attempts to determine the mechanics of a crash through physics and engineering.

The vast majority of truck accidents are totally preventable. They often involve situations where truck drivers are not adequately scanning the road ahead of them. Driver inexperience is another major factor. Younger truck drivers with less experience are substantially more likely to be involved in serious collisions. It is important for victims of truck accidents and their family members to understand that they do have legal rights. They are able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
