Freisman Sanchez Injured in Koreatown, Los Angeles Police Shooting

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (December 6, 2025) – A 35-year-old man identified as Freisman Sanchez was injured in a Los Angeles Police Department shooting in Koreatown.

Los Angeles County officials are saying that the incident took place on Friday morning. Authorities were called to the scene and encountered Freisman Sanchez, who had blood on his shirt and a piece of glass in his hand.

LAPD officers issued commands for him to drop the piece of glass. But the subject refused and allegedly approached the officers while still holding a piece of glass.

Officers opened fire and shot him. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help Freisman Sanchez.

A full investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.

Liability for Los Angeles County Police Shootings

Police officers must use a great deal of care to avoid needlessly harming suspects. According to 42 U.S. Code § 1983, every person who, under the color of law, deprives someone of their rights afforded under the Constitution, shall be liable to the injured party in an action at law. If police officers use excessive force, this could form the basis of a constitutional claim. There are many ways that police officers may have used excessive force.

  • Police officers may have continued to use tasers or other less-lethal options after a suspect has been restrained.
  • Police officers may have shot a suspect who did not pose a threat to officers or the public.
  • Police officers may have placed a suspect in a prone position that restricts their breathing.

A large portion of fatal police encounters involved suspects who were in the midst of a mental health crisis. Instead of helping with these situations, many officers make them worse with their presence. Officers may fail to use de-escalation techniques. It is also fairly common for police officers not to follow safety protocols for dealing with a suspect in the midst of a mental health crisis.

Steps to Take After Los Angeles County Police Shootings

Far too many people are killed or seriously injured during police encounters across California every year. According to the Public Policy Institute of California, “About 195 people die each year from interactions with California law enforcement. Gunshots are by far the most common cause of death: nearly 250 people are shot by police each year.” Certain steps should be taken after any instance of police brutality involving the LAPD.

  • Treatment: Victims should seek medical treatment as soon as possible. They should also collect all of the medical records associated with their injury.
  • Body Cameras: All of the body camera footage associated with an encounter should be gathered and reviewed.
  • Legal Counsel: Any person injured by the excessive force of the LAPD should seek the guidance of experienced legal counsel.

Police shootings can have a profound impact on a person’s life. Survivors are often left with traumatic injuries that can leave them with permanent disabilities. Even if a person’s physical injuries completely heal, many survivors are left with a lifetime of PTSD and other psychological trauma. Unfortunately, the LAPD will virtually never accept responsibility if one of their officers injures a suspect. This is why it is so important that these incidents are thoroughly investigated by a civil rights attorney.
