Hahn Truong Killed in Castaic Bus Accident

Hahn Truong, 67, of Castaic, Died in Collision With Santa Clarita Transit Bus by Pinto Place and Green Hill Drive

CASTAIC, CALIFORNIA (March 12, 2026) – A 67-year-old bicyclist identified as Hahn Truong has tragically died in a Castaic bus accident near the intersection of Pinto Place and Green Hill Drive.

Los Angeles County officials are saying that the accident took place around 7:34 AM on Wednesday morning. Hahn Truong was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a Santa Clarita transit bus.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. Sadly, Hahn Truong was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

There was only one passenger on the bus at the time of the collision. The driver of the bus remained at the scene and spoke with investigators.

Liability for Castaic Bus Accidents

Bus drivers are considered common carriers and must operate with a great deal of caution to avoid collisions. According to Acosta v. Southern California Rapid Transit Dist., “Common carriers bind themselves to carry safely those whom they take into their vehicles, and owe both a duty of utmost care and the vigilance of a very cautious person towards their passengers. Such carriers are responsible for any, even the slightest, negligence and are required to do all that human care, vigilance, and foresight reasonably can do under all the circumstances.” Bus drivers should take several actions to avoid colliding with any cyclist in the roadway.

  • Blind Spots: Bus drivers should regularly check their blind spots, especially when making turns at intersections.
  • Clearance: Bus drivers should keep at least 3 to 6 feet of clearance from any bicyclist at all times.
  • Speed: Bus drivers should reduce their speed in areas with heavy pedestrian or cyclist traffic.
  • Signal: Bus drivers should make their intentions clear by using turn signals in advance.

If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any cyclist in the roadway, this could be construed as negligence. Even if a cyclist is stationary in the middle of the road, this does not relieve a bus driver of their legal duty of care to take evasive action to avoid a collision. Liability for any bus accident could extend beyond any specific bus driver determined to be at fault. Generally speaking, employers can be vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their workers who were operating within the course and scope of their job duties.

Steps to Take After Los Angeles County Bus Accidents

Many people are seriously injured or killed every year in accidents with commercial buses. According to The Journalist’s Resource, “Inter-city buses are 1.9 more likely to become involved in an accident, and charter operations have “significantly higher odds of driver error.” Multiple actions should be taken after any bus accident in Los Angeles County.

  • Police Investigation: The police should be called to the scene of the accident so that they can begin an investigation.
  • Surveillance Footage: Many buses are equipped with surveillance cameras. The recordings these cameras capture can help establish how an accident took place.
  • Eyewitnesses: Any person who witnessed the collision should be interviewed sooner rather than later.
  • Investigation: The family of any person who died in a bus accident should request a free investigation by a team with experience in accident reconstruction and tort claims.

Bus accidents are often highly complex events. The factors that can contribute to any collision may take place long before the accident. These accidents are also highly preventable. They tend to involve younger and less experienced drivers. Sadly, when bus companies are involved in collisions, they will almost never be transparent about what took place. They are more likely to assign blame to the victim. The family of any person who died due to the negligent actions of a bus driver is able to seek some measure of accountability and transparency for civil action.
