Jose Ibarra Killed in Winchester Street Sweeper Accident on Domenigoni Parkway

Jose Ibarra, 62, Died in Winchester Collision With Street Sweeper on Domenigoni Parkway  Near Prairie Loop Road Near Menifee

WINCHESTER, CALIFORNIA (April 2, 2026) – A 62-year-old man identified as Jose Ibarra has tragically died in a Winchester street sweeper accident along Domenigoni Parkway.

Riverside County officials are saying that the accident took place around 6:00 AM on Thursday morning. Jose Ibarra was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck when his vehicle was involved in a collision with a street sweeper.

The force of the impact completely sheared off the truck’s cab. Paramedics were called to the scene to help the injured victim.

Sadly, Jose Ibarra was beyond medical aid and was pronounced dead at the scene by Riverside County Fire Department paramedics. No other injuries were reported as a consequence of the accident.

The Menifee Police Department is working with California Highway Patrol to investigate the crash.

Liability for Winchester Street Sweeper Accidents

Truck drivers are required to obtain a commercial license. They are expected to operate their vehicles with an abundance of caution to avoid causing accidents. Truck drivers must be particularly cautious when making turns in the roadway. According to California Vehicle Code 21801, the driver of any vehicle intending to turn left in the roadway must first yield the right-of-way to any driver that is close enough so as to pose an immediate hazard. Several factors could contribute to any street sweeper accident.

  • Blind Spots: Commercial trucks have large spots that can easily obscure the presence of smaller vehicles.
  • Turning Radius: Commercial trucks have a wide turning radius, which makes them more susceptible to side impact collisions.
  • Fatigue: A large portion of truck accidents involve drivers that are fatigued.
  • Speed: Truck drivers are much more likely to be involved in car accidents if they are traveling at an unsafe speed.

If the driver of a street sweeper failed to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Liability for a truck accident could extend beyond any particular driver deemed to be at fault. The private employer or municipal entity that a street sweeper worked for could also be liable. Generally speaking, employers in California can be vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their workers who are operating within the course and scope of their job duties.

Steps to Take After Winchester Street Sweeper Accidents

Street sweepers can weigh tens of thousands of pounds and can be particularly dangerous to those in passenger vehicles, as is the case with all commercial trucks. According to the FMCSA, “In 2022, 5,837 large trucks were involved in fatal crashes. According to MCMIS, 58,992 large trucks were involved in injury crashes, and 117,641 were involved in towaway crashes.” Certain steps should be taken after any street sweeper accident.

  • The police should be called to the scene as soon as possible so that they can conduct an investigation.
  • All of the physical evidence associated with the crash should be preserved. This includes every vehicle involved.
  • Surveillance footage that may have captured the collision should also be sought. This can be enormously useful in helping to determine fault.
  • The family of any person who died in a car accident should carefully consider their legal options with a team experienced in accident reconstruction and negligence claims.

The vast majority of truck accidents are preventable. They tend to involve situations where drivers are not properly scanning the road ahead of them for potential hazards. Sadly, truck drivers and their employers will virtually never accept responsibility if they cause an accident. They are more likely to blame the victim or other third parties. This is why it’s so important that these incidents are investigated by an outside source.
