CORNING, CALIFORNIA (July 7, 2026) – A seven-year-old girl identified as Patricia was seriously injured in a Tehama County dog attack by the area of Harham Avenue and Bosque Avenue.

Tehama County officials are saying that the attack occurred around 12:30 PM on June 27. Patricia was reportedly attacked by multiple dogs and sustained serious injuries to her scalp and legs.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the attack to help the injured girl. Patricia was transported to UC Davis Medical Center to undergo emergency surgery.

Six dogs have been seized as evidence by the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office. You can help support the victim and her family through GoFundMe.

According to the online fundraiser, “Patricia is my precious 7-year-old granddaughter, and she is currently fighting for her life after a horrific attack by a pack of dogs in Corning, CA. The dogs ripped her scalp off and left her with numerous wounds all over her body. She was rushed to UC Davis, where she has already undergone surgery and remains in critical condition.”

Liability for Tehama County Dog Attacks

California is a strict liability state when it comes to dog attacks. Owners will typically be liable for injuries caused by their dog, even if the dog did not show previous signs of aggression. According to California Civil Code 3342, “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.” There are many steps that dog owners should take to prevent attacks.

  • Dog owners must ensure their animals are on a leash at all times, except in designated off-leash areas.
  • Dog owners should socialize their animals at a young age to prevent them from being aggressive.
  • Dog owners should properly secure their animal in their home or yard.

It is illegal for dog owners to allow their animals to be off-leash in most areas across California. Despite this, a number of owners have allowed their dog to be off-leash before it attacked someone. These types of incidents are nearly always preventable. If a dog owner allows their animal to bite someone, this could serve as significant evidence. There are, however, limited exceptions for liability if the victim of the attack was somehow antagonizing the dog.

Steps to Take After California Dog Attacks

Dog attacks are a major cause of preventable injury for young children. According to one study in MDPI, “The majority of dog bites occurred in children 5 years of age or younger (68.0%). Almost all (89.8%) of the dogs were known to the children.” Victims of dog attacks should take certain steps to protect their rights.

  • The attack should be reported to the police as early as possible so that they can begin investigating.
  • The owner of the dog should be identified.
  • Any person that may have witnessed the attack should be interviewed early on.
  • Victims should consult with an experienced personal injury attorney.

Dog attacks can leave children with traumatic injuries that result in extensive medical bills. Children are also more likely to suffer from psychological injuries after any dog attack. These can manifest through anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The parents of any child injured in a dog attack are able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
