Big Rig Driver Arrested Following Sun Valley Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accident That Killed Adrian Andrade

SUN VALLEY, CALIFORNIA (June 8, 2026) – A 30-year-old motorcyclist identified as Adrian Andrade has tragically died in a Los Angeles hit-and-run semi-truck accident near Bradley Avenue and Tuxford Street.
Los Angeles County officials said the accident occurred around 4:20 AM on Thursday. A 2017 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck made a left turn into private property directly into the path of a motorcycle driven by Adrian Andrade.
The motorcyclist was not able to avoid the collision and hit the side of the semi-truck. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the victim.
Sadly, Adrian Andrade was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated that the driver of the semi-truck fled the scene of the collision initially.
However, that truck driver later returned to the scene before being taken into custody. The truck driver is facing felony hit-and-run charges.
Liability for San Fernando Valley Semi-Truck Accidents
Truck drivers are required to obtain a commercial license and are expected to operate with an abundance of caution to avoid collisions. They must be especially cautious when making any left turn on the roadway. According to California Vehicle Code 21801, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement.” Truck companies should take several measures to prevent collisions.
- Training: Truck drivers should receive ample training so that they are able to handle their vehicle safely.
- Routes: Truck companies eliminate as many left turns as possible in the planned routes that their drivers take.
- Technology: Truck companies should consider installing safety features such as blind spot monitoring systems.
- Maintenance: Truck companies should ensure that all of their vehicles are periodically inspected and well maintained.
If a truck driver makes a turn into the path of a motorcyclist or other vehicle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Truck drivers are supposed to check their blind spots before making turns at any intersection. Liability for a truck accident could extend beyond any specific driver. The company that a truck driver worked for could also bear some level of responsibility. Employers are typically liable for the negligent actions of their workers who are operating within their job duties. However, truck companies will often hire their drivers as “independent contractors” to limit their legal exposure in the event of a crash.
Steps to Take After San Fernando Valley Truck Accidents
Commercial trucks are involved in many serious injury collisions each year in California. Part of the problem is the large blind spots that trucks have. According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, “Large vehicle and truck drivers have a better view in front of them and bigger mirrors. But they also have large blind spots, also called No Zones. In these areas, your vehicle can disappear from a large vehicle or truck driver’s view. If you cannot see the truck’s side mirrors, the truck driver cannot see you.” Several steps should be taken after any truck accident.
- The police report created after the collision should be sought.
- The event data recorder for the truck involved should be collected.
- The history of the collisions at the accident site should be studied.
- The family of any person killed in a truck accident should seek an independent review by a team experienced in accident claims.
The factors that contribute to any specific crash can take place many hours or even months beforehand. Among other things, truck drivers may be pushed to complete delivery on unrealistic time schedules. This can lead to them taking safety shortcuts. One of the most dangerous habits that truck drivers take is working while fatigued. The family of any person who died in a truck accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
