Anthony Joseph Ramon, YMCA Summer Camp Counselor, Accused of Sexually Assaulting Child at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center

MORGAN HILL, CALIFORNIA (July 13, 2026) – A YMCA summer camp counselor identified as Anthony Ramon has been accused of sexually assaulting a child at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center.
Santa Clara County officials are saying that they first received a report on June 30. It was related to a 10-year-old girl who said that she was sexually assaulted by a YMCA camp counselor.
Detectives were eventually able to identify the suspect as Anthony Ramon. He was subsequently placed on leave pending an investigation.
The defendant has been employed with the YMCA since August 2024. The 25-year-old suspect has since been charged with lewd and lascivious acts on a minor and was booked into the Santa Clara County jail.
A full investigation into all of the allegations remains ongoing at this time.
Liability for Morgan Hill Sexual Abuse
Schools and youth programs in California have a legal obligation to protect children from reasonably foreseeable sources of harm. This includes sexual abuse at the hands of their employees. Consider, for example, Doe v. Anderson Union High Sch. Dist. A high school teacher sexually abused a 17-year-old student over a three-month period, including encounters at the school. The court held, “The existence of such a special relationship puts the defendant in a unique position to protect the plaintiff from injury. The law requires the defendant to use this position accordingly. [Citation.]” (Brown, supra, 11 Cal.5th at p. 216.) Schools should take several actions to protect students from sexual abuse.
- Background Checks: Student athletic programs should institute background checks on all prospective employees
- Monitoring: Student athletic programs should monitor the students in their care at all times and prevent children from being isolated with individual adults.
- Reporting: Student athletic programs should have numerous ways that misconduct can be reported.
- Policies: Student athletic programs should develop and enforce written policies related to sexual misconduct.
When a school or other business that takes care of children fails to protect against sexual abuse or other crimes, this could be construed as negligence. In other words, schools or businesses that were monitoring the child could be directly liable for the misconduct in addition to the perpetrator. What matters in these types of cases is whether or not the abuse that took place was reasonably foreseeable. If a school or other business knew (or should have known) that a certain employee posed a risk of harm, this makes abuse involving that person more foreseeable.
Steps to Take After Morgan Hill Sexual Abuse
Sexual abuse remains a very common occurrence across institutions that are in charge of supervising children. According to neaToday, “there were 14,938 incidents of sexual violence in K–12 schools in 2017 – 2018 compared with 9,649 in 2015 – 2016, representing a 55 percent increase.” Multiple actions should be taken after any instance of sexual abuse involving the YMCA.
- The police should be alerted to the abuse as early as possible so that they can begin investigating.
- All communication between the perpetrator and the victim should be collected for review.
- The history of misconduct allegations against the perpetrator should also be understood.
- Victims should consider their legal options with a team experienced in personal injury claims.
It could be hard to know what to do after any instance of child sexual abuse. These experiences are some of the most traumatic and harmful that children go through. Unfortunately, schools and other institutions will do everything in their power to protect their own interests. They will often put the blame entirely on the perpetrator. The family of any child who is sexually abused at a youth program may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil action.
